From the East

My Esteemed Brethren of Boca Delray Lodge No. 171,

As we move forward into the fall season, I would like to thank each of you for the incredible support and dedication you’ve shown to our Lodge. The year has been filled with meaningful events and degrees, and I am proud of the work we have accomplished together. I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to W∴ Howard Zimmerman for receiving his 35-year certificate. W∴ Zimmerman is a memorable Brother and an asset to both Freemasonry and our Lodge.

Additionally, I want to express my gratitude to the Brothers who participated in the home visit on September 7, where we had the honor of delivering a 50-year certificate to Brother Bobby Gene Stoots, a member of the Grand Lodge of Indiana. Brother Stoots is currently in home hospice care. The Brethren who extended their Cable Tows for this special occasion were W∴ Ferrari, Brother Eric Figueroa, Brother Giuseppe Garufi, Brother Ben Cohen, and myself. It was a touching moment that brought joy to a Brother in need and truly exemplified the spirit of Freemasonry.

As we look ahead, please note the following upcoming events:

  • 10/03/2024: Stated Communication

  • 10/17/2024: Called Communication FC Degree

  • 11/07/2024: Stated Communication

  • 11/21/2024: Table Lodge

  • 12/05/2024: Stated Communication: Officer’s 2025 Election

  • 12/09/2024: End of the Year Dinner at Maggiano’s

  • 12/19/2024: Called Communication

Please note that as of October, the summer dress code has ended, and we are back to jackets and ties for our meetings.

Highlights from Our Officers:

From the West: Brother Nick Richard encourages all Brethren to revisit Masonic Etiquette, especially the role of the Chaplain, who plays a vital part in our ceremonies and rituals. He reminds us that the prayers during lodge communications should come from the heart and reflect the solemnity of our work.

From the South: Brother Eric Figueroa reminds us of the duties and privileges of a Master Mason, including attending meetings, funerals, visiting the sick, and assisting the Worshipful Master. Let us all take these responsibilities to heart as we continue our Masonic journey.

From the Secretary: R∴W∴ Mike Sinatra emphasizes the importance of staying current with dues. For those who have not paid their 2024 dues, please contact him immediately to avoid suspension. He also highlights the special 50-year certificate presentation made to Brother Stoots, a heartwarming example of our Masonic bonds.

Chaplain’s Corner: W∴ Howard Zimmerman reflects on the spiritual significance of the Feast of Tishrei, reminding us of the dedication of King Solomon’s Temple and the ideals of brotherly love and human accord. He also shares a thoughtful message for Rosh Hashanah, wishing the Brethren of the Jewish faith a Happy and Healthy New Year, 5785. "As long as the candle is still burning, it is still possible to mend our mistakes."

Let us continue to support one another and our Lodge as we move forward. I look forward to seeing you all at our upcoming meetings.

Fraternally and sincerely,

Rafael Nioac de Salles

From the West

Greetings From the West Brethren!

Happy fall! I know many of us are looking forward to a break from the heat. With summer ending, I hope to see many of you back at the lodge.

Let us also take a moment to enhance our Masonic knowledge. I encourage every Brother to revisit or explore our Masonic Etiquette, which you can access by clicking here: [Masonic Etiquette - GL208] (https://www.grandlodgefl.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/GL-208-Masonic-Etiquette-Booklet-1.pdf).

In the spirit of continued learning, I'd like to share insights about the role of the CHAPLAIN:

"'CHAPLAIN:

As an Officer of the Lodge, and while acting in that capacity, the correct place for the Chaplain to be seated during a Communication is to the left and in front of the Worshipful Master. The prayers at the opening and closing of the Lodge may be offered by the Chaplain while kneeling at the Altar or while standing at his place, at the option of the Worshipful Master. The Scriptures assigned to the Circumambulations should be recited by the Chaplain standing in his place in the Lodge and should not be read. The Chaplain has otherwise so little to render that the memorizations of these portions should not prove burdensome to him. Only the adopted ritual prayers as found in the Official Florida Monitor shall be used in opening, closing, and during Degree conferrals, except that the Chaplain may add some words of his own at the end of the opening and/or closing prayer in non-sectarian language and in good taste."

Let us continue to strengthen our fraternity by fostering open communication and support among our Brothers. Remember, if you wish to contribute or require assistance, reach out - we are here for each other!

Fraternally,

Nick Richard Senior Warden

From the South

Greetings from the South Brethren!

There are certain duties and privileges which obtain to a Master Mason, and upon his proper performance of them largely depends on his usefulness as a Mason and the success of his lodge. Masonry severely frowns upon any man who neglects his family duties, nor does it expect anyone to undergo any particular inconvenience on its behalf, but anyone who expects to get anything out of Masonry must be willing to put the very best that is in him into it. Some of the duties are attending meetings, attending funerals, visiting the sick, and particularly assisting the Worshipful Master in committee work and on investigations when assigned to them.

I look forward to seeing each and every Brother in Lodge. See you at the next meeting.

Fraternally,

Eric Figueroa

Junior Warden

From the Secretary

Fraternal greetings, Brethren.

Well, we are back to jackets and ties which I am verry happy to see. We must represent ourselves as respectable gentlemen. Yes, we live in South Florida where the heat is unbearable but we leave our air-conditioned homes into our air-conditioned car then into the air-conditioned lodge. Someone has to show me the logic for casual dress.

I again am crying the blues with delinquent dues paying members. We have way too many that still have not paid their 2024 dues. Two notices were sent to them, Brother Brasher called all, spoke to some, left messages with other. That was two weeks ago and not a single payment has been received.

September 28th I am mailing their final notice. If no payment is received they will be dropped as a member in good standing. They cannot simply ask in the future if they can make a payment and be reinstated. They need to have a background check for felonies possibly committed. Submit a reinstatement petition, be investigated by a committee of Brothers and then be ballot on. If a Brother just feels that he can join another lodge, he cannot, Grand Lodge will pick this up. He cannot join another lodge in any other State as well. Brothers, why subject yourself to this ordeal and embarrassment? It took a lot of hard work for you to attain the rank, privilege and honor of becoming a Master Mason, don’t toss it out the window.

I am happy to discuss this with any Brother who has not paid his dues. Email me at mastermason33@gmail.com or call me 561-613-8094

The Grand Lodge of Indiana email the Grand Lodge of Florida who in turn contacted Boca Delray to present a 50-year certificate to one of their members who lives in Boca. The Brother is in home hospice with his wife helping him. Several of our Brothers presented the award at his home on Saturday September 7th. Brethren presenting the award can be seen in the photo:

Chaplain's Corner

Greetings Brethren!

Masonry and the Feast of Tishrei.

As the children of Israel were led through the wilderness, G-D decreed the celebration of a seven-day feast in the Jewish month of Tishrei, during which they were to live in “sukkahs’” (shelters or Booths). He decreed that this feast be celebrated annually to remind the Israelites forever that He had rescued them from Egypt. This “Feast of Tishrei” (or “Feast of Succoth”) is thus a symbol of freedom. Some 450 years after its origin, the Feast of Tishrei was utilized in dedicating the newly completed King Solomon’s Temple, and this association led to its adoption by Scottish Rite Masonry to symbolize our dedication to brotherly love and human accord in a peaceful world.

This adaptation is evidenced in lessons taught by the Third Degree lecture (Blue Lodge), wherein we learn that David, King of Israel, was denied the privilege of building the Temple of G-d due to the “many wars and much bloodshed” associated with his reign. On his death, Solomon, his son, ascended the throne and brought peace and tranquility in the world through wisdom and righteousness. G-D thus chose him to perform “so great and glorious an undertaking” as that denied David. And so it was that through Solomon, construction of the Temple was seemingly guided by the hand of G-D for indeed it was.

Association of the Feast of Tishrei with the dedication of the Temple of Solomon led to its third name, the “Feast of the Tabernacle”. The Feast of Tishrei thus epitomizes the character, principles and purposes of Scottish Rite Masonry, all being consistent with the dictates of the G-D who spoke it into existence.

Wishing the brethren of the Jewish faith a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year, 5785, Shanah Tovah U’metukah. May the GAOTU continue to watch over all those in need. SMIB

MY MASONIC LODGE

A wonderful way to end my day

I change into my tux and I'm on my way

To visit my brothers gathered together

Akin to the proverb

Birds of a feather

Time to unwind with my Brothers and friends

Where laughter and ribbing never ends

That is to say to a Degree

Listening to the ritual one, two and three

Related to the candidate and when all is unfurled

A new Mason is brought into the world

Entered, Passed and Raised

All brothers arise with claps and praise

Our newest Mason, our friend our brother

Now has a blue lodge he calls his mother

How proud can anyone be

Becoming a Mason just like me

Greetings my brethren.

Rosh Hashanah 5785

This coming Wednesday night, October 2, at sundown begins the holiday of Rosh Hashanah 5785, the beginning of the Jewish New Year and the High Holy Day season. In actuality, the Jewish people celebrate 4 different New Years throughout the year but Rosh Hashanah is the BIG one. This is the time when we make resolutions between us and G-D and us and our fellow man. Next week, Yom Kippur, we atone for those sins we made during the past year, whether intentional or by accident. It's not so unique, as next year we do it all over again. This year we'll try to strive to be better and again we'll fall short of perfection. Over and over, year after year-that's life. It can be stressful, depressing, liberating and exciting, but whatever the feeling is, the goal is not perfection. It's trying to just make it a little better than last year. I have my resolutions, do you?

There is a story told about Rabbi Yisrael Salanter. One night, he walked past the shoemaker’s home. Despite it being very late, he noticed that the shoemaker was still busy, working by the light of a candle. “Why are you still working?” Rabbi Salanter asked him. “It is very late and soon the candle will go out.”

The shoemaker replied “As long as the candle is still burning, it is still possible to accomplish and to mend shoes.”

Rabbi Salanter went out to the street and cried: Jews! Listen, my fellow Jews. As long as the candle is still burning, it is still possible to mend our mistakes!

(Maimonides, Mishneh Torah, Tshuva 3, 4)

As we approach the one year mark since October 7, we hope and pray for the release and recovery of all those in hostage and captive situations. Bring them home now! May the Great Architect of the Universe continue to watch over all those in need wherever dispersed around the globe.

L'Shanah Tovah Tikateivu V'teichateimu; May you be inscribed and sealed in the Book of Life. Wishing you all a year filled with good health, prosperity, happiness and most of all peace.

Fraternally,

W∴ Howard Zimmerman
