From the East

My Esteemed Brethren of Boca Delray Lodge No. 171,

As we step into August, I am pleased to share the significant activities and messages from our officers that reflect the dedication and spirit of our Lodge.

First, I want to highlight the important contributions from our Senior Warden, Junior Warden, Secretary, and Chaplain in this month's Trestleboard. Their messages provide valuable insights and guidance for our Masonic journey.

1. FC Proficiency: We will be conducting Fellow Craft Proficiency at our first meeting on August 1st. I encourage all Brothers to attend and support our Fellow Crafts.

2. DDGM Official Visit: On August 15th, we will have the honor of hosting our District Deputy Grand Master, R∴W∴ Ramon Voils, for his official visit. This is a significant occasion, and we look forward to welcoming him and hearing the Grand Master's message.

3. Visit to the Masonic Home: Our visit to the Masonic Home on July 13th was a remarkable experience. Eleven members and guests traveled in four cars, spending four hours each way. It was an amazing day of charity and fellowship, and I want to thank everyone who participated.

4. Summer Dress Code: We are now observing the summer dress code. Brethren should wear shirts and pants (no jeans). Officers are still required to wear formal tuxedos or dark suits.

5. Upcoming Degrees and Ceremonies: We are planning a Master Mason Degree on our first meeting in September, September 5th. Additionally, we will have EA Proficiency and a Bible and Apron Ceremony at our second meeting in September, on September 19th.

6. Chaplain's Message: Our Chaplain, W∴ Howard Zimmerman, reminds us of the importance of humility, love, and charity, encouraging us to stay committed to our values and support each other.

7. Masonic Education from the Officers:

- Senior Warden's Message: Brother Nick Richard encourages us to review our Masonic Etiquette, especially on Bible Presentation, and reminds us of the importance of presenting Bibles to new members.

- Junior Warden's Message: Brother Eric Figueroa provides a thoughtful narrative on Shem, Ham, and Japheth, offering insights into their significance in the biblical context and their symbolism in Masonry.

- Secretary's Message: R∴W∴ Mike Sinatra outlines the role and responsibilities of the District Deputy Grand Master and emphasizes the importance of paying dues promptly.

Finally, I want to express my gratitude to all Brothers and their families for their continued support and dedication. Let's continue to strengthen our bonds and work together for the betterment of our Lodge and community.

Fraternally and sincerely,

Rafael Nioac de Salles

From the West

Greetings From the West Brethren!

I hope all of you are well and having a great time enjoying your summer. We have much going on this month both inside and outside of the lodge and I hope to be seeing all of you this month. For those interested, I will be sitting in the east for the 1st meeting in August. I'm excited to serve the craft and to see all of you there.

A bit of Masonic education: I encourage my Brothers to read or re-read our Masonic Etiquette (click here GL208). Sharing the item about BIBLE PRESENTATION:

"BIBLE PRESENTATION:

Our regulations prescribe that the Bible used in the Lodge Room should be the unadorned Holy Bible. It is not believed that this prohibits the presentation to a new Brother of a Bible bearing the Square and Compasses on the back, the remainder of the covering being plain and of a solid color, nor does it prohibit the use of a Bible having a page in the front for recording the presentation.

It goes without saying that no one new member is to be singled out for such a presentation; if the Lodge authorizes such a presentation, then a Bible should be presented to each new member thus received.

When so presented, the officiant presenting the same should deliver a short and dignified message as to the place the Holy Bible occupies in Masonry and its significance and binding effect upon every Mason."

Fraternally,

Nick Richard Senior Warden

From the South

Greetings from the South Brethren!

Who were Shem, Ham, and Japheth?

Shem, Ham, and Japheth are three prominent figures in the biblical narrative of the Great Flood and the subsequent repopulation of the Earth. According to the Book of Genesis in the Bible, they were the sons of Noah and his wife, and they played a crucial role in the survival of humanity during the catastrophic flood.

After God decided to flood the Earth to cleanse it of wickedness, Noah and his family were chosen to build an ark to save themselves and representatives of all land-dwelling animal species. The ark served as a vessel to protect Noah, his wife, his three sons (Shem, Ham, and Japheth), and their wives from the deluge that wiped out all life on Earth.

During their time on the ark, Shem, Ham, and Japheth assisted Noah in caring for the animals and weathering the storm. After the floodwaters receded and the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat, these three sons of Noah played a critical role in repopulating the Earth.

According to the biblical account, the descendants of Shem are associated with various Semitic peoples, including the Israelites, Arabs, and others. Ham is traditionally linked to the African peoples, while Japheth is seen as the ancestor of the Indo-European nations.

The story of Shem, Ham, and Japheth is not only a tale of survival and renewal but also a foundational element in the biblical explanation of the diversity of human cultures and languages. Their descendants are believed to have spread out across the Earth, forming the basis for the different nations and civilizations that emerged in ancient times.

The narrative of Shem, Ham, and Japheth not only provides insights into the early history of humanity according to the Bible but also serves as a reminder of the enduring themes of family, faith, survival, and the interconnectedness of all people.

As always, my Brothers, it is my pleasure to serve you in the South. If there is anything you need from me regarding the meals or anything else, do not hesitate to ask.

Fraternally,

Eric Figueroa

Junior Warden

From the Secretary

Fraternal greetings, Brethren.

We will have the pleasure of having our newly appointed District Deputy Grand Master, Right Worshipful R. Voils, at Boca Delray this month. He visits us in the capacity of his official visitation to the lodge.

It is an honor to be appointed District Deputy by the Grand Master as he has chosen a Past Master or Past District Instructor whom he feels will represent him and has put faith and trust into his appointee. Many Brethren do not see what goes on behind the scenes during the DD’s visit. First and foremost, the District Deputy is the Grand Master’s personal representative to the District. The District is usually a County, while the jurisdiction is the State.

He is the Grand Master’s eyes and ears and an intermediary between the Brethren, Lodge, District, and Grand Master. He is there to answer questions and offer guidance, and if need be, he contacts the Grand Master for a ruling, as only the Grand Master can interpret the Digest, our book of rules and procedures.

When the DD visits a lodge in an office capacity, an important aspect of his visit and job is to assure the Grand Lodge that the lodge follows the many different directives and rules, some Masonic, others civil.

He will sit with the Worshipful Master, who is ultimately responsible for all that transpires in the lodge. The Treasurer and Secretary are also present, as they are more intimately privy to either finances or the daily business occurrences. These meetings usually take place in the lodge’s office, as this is a business meeting, as opposed to sitting in the collation room.

Grand Lodge has a several-page form with questions ranging from the date the last payment to the County Tax Collector was sent (we pay sales tax on room rentals, meals served, lodge shirts purchased etc.), verification that the lodge has proper insurance, that those wishing to become an elected officer have taken the required Masonic courses, to how many men were initiated and Raised to those who have Passed to the Celestial Lodge Above. The meeting usually takes about forty-five minutes. Your secretary likes to have the form pre-populated researching all answers ahead of time so that the process is more accurate and streamlined. I personally appreciate the DD’s inquiries as they help prevent the lodge from making mistakes and keep us on the same level.

The District Deputie’s official visits are to be taken seriously, while we do enjoy his presence, meeting his committeemen, and hearing the Grand Master’s message.

A note for those Brothers who have not paid their 2024 dues, second late notices will be sent out in about ten days. Please remit dues promptly and maintain your membership in good standing.

Fraternally,

R∴W∴ Mike Sinatra

Secretary

Chaplain's Corner

Greetings Brethren!

Embrace humility, embody genuine love, and practice charity as your faith guides you. Despite challenges, let these virtues be your ultimate goal. Understand that disappointments may come; some may attempt to tarnish your reputation or dehumanize you without reason. Stay steadfast in your commitment to G-D, your neighbors, and your community.

Remain resolute! Keep your eyes to the East where the Sun rises and the entire universe will align to aid you in achieving your goals.

May the GAOTU continue to watch over all those in need and wherever dispersed around the world especially our sweet Alice and W∴Brother Jay.

Greetings my brethren.

W∴ Howard Zimmerman

Poem

The Journey of the Fellow Craft

With every step we take, we rise and see

The moral truths that set us free.

In deep symbols, their meaning is clear,

We learn to build with sincere love here.

From stone to spirit, heart to hand,

In wisdom's grace, we firmly stand.

The plumb, the square, the level's guide,

In virtue's path, we now abide.

A vast journey, yet close at heart,

In Fellow Craft, we play our part.

With learned men's words as a beacon bright,

We honor truth and embrace the right.

For in this craft, we grow and learn,

In every lesson, our souls discern.

With every step, we rise and see,

The moral truths that set us free.
